وفاة رجل بعد سقوطه من سلم متحرك داخل مركز تجاري في كندا

تحول مركز تجاري مزدحم في مدينة تورنتو الكندية إلى مسرح لحادث مأساوي، بعدما لقي رجل مصرعه إثر سقوطه من سلم متحرك في ظروف لا تزال تثير التساؤلات، بينما سارعت السلطات إلى إخلاء الموقع وفتح تحقيق لكشف ملابسات الواقعة.

وأعلنت شرطة تورنتو أنها تلقت بلاغات عن وقوع حادث داخل مركز «ريو كان إمبريز ووك بلازا» في منطقة نورث يورك، لتتوجه على الفور فرق الشرطة والإسعاف إلى الموقع.

وعند وصولها، عثرت الفرق المختصة على رجل مصاب إثر سقوطه من السلم المتحرك، قبل أن يُعلن عن وفاته في مكان الحادث.

وعقب الحادث، أخلت السلطات المركز التجاري وأغلقته مؤقتاً لضمان سلامة الموجودين وإتاحة المجال أمام فرق التحقيق، قبل أن تؤكد الشرطة لاحقاً عدم وجود أي مؤشرات تدل على وقوع جريمة أو شبهة جنائية.

ونقلت قناة «غلوبال نيوز» عن أحد شهود العيان قوله إنه شاهد انتشاراً واسعاً لعناصر الشرطة وفرق الأمن داخل المركز، موضحاً أن عملية الإخلاء جرت بهدوء ودون تسجيل أي حالات هلع بين المتسوقين، الذين غادروا المكان تدريجياً رغم الازدحام.

من جهتها، أعربت الشركة المالكة للمركز التجاري، عن حزنها لوفاة الرجل، مؤكدة تعاونها الكامل مع السلطات المختصة في التحقيق، وقدمت تعازيها لأسرة الضحية، فيما أحالت جميع الاستفسارات المتعلقة بالواقعة إلى شرطة تورنتو.

وفي إطار التحقيقات، أعلنت هيئة المعايير الفنية والسلامة في كندا أنها أخضعت السلم المتحرك لفحص فني، وأظهرت النتائج الأولية عدم وجود أي أعطال ميكانيكية، ما يشير إلى أن الحادث لم يكن ناجماً عن خلل فني.

كما أوضحت وزارة العمل الكندية أنها تلقت إخطاراً بالواقعة، إلا أنها أكدت أن الحادث لا يندرج ضمن اختصاصها، لكونه لا يرتبط ببيئة عمل أو نشاط مهني.

ولا تزال السلطات الكندية تواصل تحقيقاتها للوقوف على ملابسات الحادث وأسبابه، في وقت أثارت الواقعة اهتماماً واسعاً نظراً لحدوثها داخل أحد المراكز التجارية المزدحمة.

A busy shopping center in Toronto, Canada, turned into the scene of a tragic incident after a man died following a fall from an escalator under circumstances that remain questionable, while authorities quickly evacuated the site and opened an investigation to uncover the details of the incident.

Toronto police announced that they received reports of an accident inside the “Rio Can Empress Walk Plaza” in the North York area, prompting police and ambulance teams to head to the scene immediately.

Upon arrival, the specialized teams found a man injured from his fall from the escalator, before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the incident, authorities evacuated the shopping center and temporarily closed it to ensure the safety of those present and to allow investigation teams to work, later confirming that there were no indications of a crime or criminal suspicion.

The “Global News” channel quoted a witness saying he saw a wide presence of police and security teams inside the center, explaining that the evacuation took place calmly without any panic among the shoppers, who left the area gradually despite the crowd.

For its part, the company that owns the shopping center expressed its sorrow over the man's death, confirming its full cooperation with the relevant authorities in the investigation, and offered its condolences to the victim's family, while referring all inquiries related to the incident to Toronto police.

As part of the investigations, the Canadian Standards Association announced that it subjected the escalator to a technical inspection, and initial results showed no mechanical faults, indicating that the incident was not due to a technical malfunction.

The Canadian Ministry of Labour also stated that it received notification of the incident, but confirmed that the accident does not fall under its jurisdiction, as it is not related to a work environment or professional activity.

Canadian authorities continue their investigations to determine the circumstances and causes of the incident, at a time when the event has attracted widespread attention due to its occurrence inside a busy shopping center.
