NEW YORK — Saudi Arabia called for greater international action to combat conflict-related sexual violence, stressing that perpetrators must be held accountable and impunity brought to an end.

Speaking before the UN Security Council during a session on sexual violence in armed conflict, Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, said such crimes pose a threat to international peace and security.

In the Kingdom's statement, Alwasil stressed the importance of full compliance with international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, the protection of civilians, and ensuring unhindered access for humanitarian assistance.

He also highlighted the efforts of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) in supporting people affected by conflicts, including survivors of sexual violence, in cooperation with international organizations.

Alwasil said violations in the Palestinian territories, including sexual violence, constitute serious breaches of international law, calling for urgent international action to protect civilians and hold those responsible accountable.

He concluded by emphasizing that protecting civilians from conflict-related sexual violence is a shared legal and moral responsibility that requires stronger international cooperation and a coordinated response to the needs of victims.
