SHANGHAI, China — The Saudi Mathematics Team is competing in the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026), taking place from July 10 to 21, with students representing more than 100 countries.
A team of six secondary school students — prepared by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in partnership with the Ministry of Education — heads into one of the world's oldest and most challenging international mathematics competitions for secondary school students following an intensive qualification and training journey.
The students completed a comprehensive training pathway that began with the National Science and Mathematics Olympiad (NSMO), followed by a series of specialized training forums and programs.

Their preparation concluded with an intensive training phase lasting nearly two months under the supervision of leading national and international Olympiad experts.
Throughout the program, the students received advanced training in mathematical concepts, analytical and creative thinking, and strategies for solving complex problems.
The IMO — the world's oldest and most prestigious mathematics competition for secondary school students — consists of two examinations held over two days, during which participants solve six mathematical problems, three each day, with four and a half hours allotted for each examination.
The competition spans several branches of advanced mathematics, including geometry, algebra, combinatorics, and number theory, requiring high levels of critical thinking, analysis, logical reasoning, and creative problem-solving.
The Saudi team's participation underscores the Kingdom's commitment to developing human capabilities and strengthening its presence in science, knowledge, and innovation.
