وجهت السلطات القضائية في فرنسا تهمة القتل العمد إلى امرأة في السبعين من عمرها، على خلفية مقتل المواطنة البريطانية كارين كارتر (65 عاماً) طعناً داخل منزلها في قرية تريمولا بمقاطعة دوردوني (جنوب غرب فرنسا) في أبريل 2025.

تعتبر جرائم القتل في المناطق الريفية الفرنسية نادرة، وعادة ما تثير اهتماماً واسعاً عندما تقع.

وقال المدعي العام في مدينة بيريغو، جاك-إدوار أندرو: إن المشتبه بها، وهي إحدى جارات الضحية المقربات، وُضعت تحت الإشراف القضائي بعد توجيه الاتهام إليها، مشيرًا إلى أن جريمة القتل مع سبق الإصرار قد تصل عقوبتها في فرنسا إلى السجن المؤبد.

تحقيقات معقدة

كانت كارين كارتر، وهي أم لأربعة أبناء، تقيم بمفردها في منزلها بفرنسا، وكانت في طور إنهاء إجراءات طلاقها من زوجها آلان كارتر (66 عاماً) المقيم في جنوب أفريقيا.

أظهرت التحقيقات أن الضحية كانت على علاقة عاطفية مع جان فرانسوا جيرييه (75 عاماً)، وهو مدير تنفيذي متقاعد يسكن بالقرب منها، ويُعتقد أن هذه العلاقة أثارت خلافات مع بعض المقربين، حسبما نقلت وسائل إعلام فرنسية.

وفي بداية التحقيقات، ألقت الشرطة القبض على جيرييه وسيدة أخرى تدعى ماري لور أوتوفور، قبل أن يُخلى سبيلهما لاحقًا دون توجيه أي اتهامات.

اكتشاف الجريمة

بحسب التحقيقات، كان جيرييه قد أقام حفلاً في يوم الجريمة، ثم توجه إلى منزل كارين بعد أن لم تتواصل معه كالمعتاد، ليجدها غارقة في دمائها، وأكد المسعفون وفاتها في مكان الحادثة.

وخلال استجوابه، أبلغ جيرييه المحققين بأنهم يجب أن يحققوا مع ماري لور أوتوفور، مدعيًا أنها كانت تكنّ له مشاعر عاطفية، وأنها شعرت بالإحباط بعدما لم يبادلها تلك المشاعر، وهو ما أدى إلى توقيفها مؤقتًا قبل أن تقدم دليلًا على وجودها في مكان آخر وقت الجريمة.

أدلة وتحاليل

وأخذ المحققون عينات الحمض النووي (DNA) من عدد من الأشخاص؛ بينهم جيرييه، وأوتوفور، ونحو 15 شخصًا حضروا الحفل، إلا أن الفحوص لم تطابق أيًا منهم مع الأدلة البيولوجية التي عُثر عليها في مسرح الجريمة.

وأوضح المدعي العام أن المرأة السبعينية التي وُجهت إليها التهمة كانت احتُجزت للمرة الأولى في 30 أبريل 2025؛ وهو اليوم نفسه الذي أوقفت فيه أوتوفور، قبل أن تُوجَّه إليها رسميًا تهمة القتل مع سبق الإصرار في 2 يوليو.

ونظرًا لتقدمها في السن، تخضع المتهمة حاليًا للإشراف القضائي؛ ما يعني مراقبتها من قبل السلطات دون احتجازها داخل السجن، كما مُنعت من الإقامة في قرية تريمولا طوال فترة سير التحقيقات.

وأكد محامي أسرة الضحية، رضا حموش، أن عائلة كارين كانت تعتقد منذ فترة أن لديها تصورًا بشأن المسؤول عن الجريمة، لكنه رفض الكشف عن أي تفاصيل احترامًا لسرية التحقيق، مؤكدًا أن السلطات الفرنسية تواصل العمل على استكمال الأدلة للوصول إلى الحقيقة وتحقيق العدالة.

In a dramatic incident, French judicial authorities charged a 70-year-old woman with premeditated murder in connection with the death of British national Karen Carter (65), who was found stabbed to death inside her home in the village of Tremolat in the Dordogne region (southwestern France) in April 2025.

The public prosecutor in the city of Bergerac, Jacques-Edouard Andrew, stated that the suspect, a close neighbor of the victim, was placed under judicial supervision after the charges were brought against her, noting that premeditated murder can carry a life sentence in France.

Complex Investigations

Karen Carter, a mother of four, was living alone in her home in France while she was in the process of finalizing her divorce from her husband, Alan Carter (66), who resides in South Africa.

Investigations revealed that the victim was in a romantic relationship with Jean-François Guérin (75), a retired executive living near her home, a relationship believed to have sparked disputes with some close acquaintances, according to reports from French media.

At the beginning of the investigations, the police arrested Guérin and another woman named Marie-Laure Autoffor, but they were later released without any charges being filed against them.

Discovery of the Crime

According to the investigations, Guérin had hosted a party on the day of the crime and then went to Karen's home after she failed to contact him as expected, only to find her lying in a pool of her own blood, before paramedics confirmed her death at the scene.

During his interrogation, Guérin informed investigators that they should look into Marie-Laure Autoffor, claiming that she had feelings for him and felt frustrated when he did not reciprocate those feelings, which led to her temporary detention before she provided an alibi for being elsewhere at the time of the crime.

Evidence and Analyses

Investigators collected DNA samples from several individuals, including Guérin, Autoffor, and about 15 people who attended the party, but the tests did not match any of them with the biological evidence found at the crime scene.

The public prosecutor clarified that the seventy-year-old woman who was charged had been detained for the first time on April 30, 2025; the same day Autoffor was arrested, before she was officially charged with premeditated murder on July 2.

Due to her advanced age, the accused is currently under judicial supervision, meaning she is monitored by authorities without being held in prison, and she has been prohibited from residing in the village of Tremolat for the duration of the investigation.

The lawyer for the victim's family, Reda Hamouch, confirmed that Karen's family had believed for some time that they had an idea about who was responsible for the crime, but he declined to disclose any details out of respect for the confidentiality of the investigation, affirming that French authorities continue to work on gathering evidence to uncover the truth and achieve justice.
