The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, confirmed yesterday (Friday) that the dialogue between the European Union and China to address trade balance imbalances must yield tangible results, after the European bloc set October as a deadline to make progress on this issue.

She added, during a visit to the city of Cork coinciding with the start of Ireland's rotating presidency of the European Union, that Brussels will continue the dialogue with Beijing, emphasizing: "But this dialogue must also produce results."

The European Union and China agreed last Monday to set October as a deadline to make progress in resolving trade disputes, as part of the efforts of the two economic powers to address tensions in their economic relationship.
