Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 4, 2026 · Effective: July 4, 2026
1. Who we are & scope
Ajel (“عاجل”) is an Arabic-first news platform operated by Beseyat (Saudi Arabia). We provide the website news-ajel.com and mobile apps available on the App Store, Google Play, Samsung Galaxy Store, and Huawei AppGallery. This policy applies to both the website and the apps. The data controller is Ajel/Beseyat, reachable at [email protected]. By using our services you agree to the practices described here.
2. Data we collect & why
- Anonymous device identifier: a random ID stored on your device so you can react to articles and vote in polls without signing in. Not linked to your name or identity. (Purpose: app functionality, prevent duplicate votes.)
- Push token: stored only if you enable notifications, to deliver breaking-news alerts. (Purpose: notifications — optional.)
- Notification preferences: if you choose specific sections to be alerted about, we store that choice to send only what’s relevant to you.
- Email address (optional): collected only if you subscribe to the newsletter, to send it to you. One-click unsubscribe anytime.
- Guest comment name: a display name only (no account or email); all comments are moderated before publishing.
- Hashed IP address: a one-way-encrypted form of your IP for abuse prevention and view counting; it cannot directly identify you.
- Aggregated usage data: statistics such as most-read sections and time-on-page to improve the service (via Google Analytics on the website).
3. What we do NOT collect
The app does not request or collect: location, contacts, photos or files, microphone or camera, health or financial data, or any biometric data. Using the app does not require an account or sign-in.
4. Legal bases for processing
We process your data based on: your consent (e.g., enabling notifications or subscribing), our legitimate interest in operating, securing, and improving the service, and legal obligations where applicable. You can withdraw consent at any time.
5. Notifications
Notifications are entirely optional and are enabled only with your consent via the system permission prompt. They are delivered through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android) and the Apple Push Notification service (iOS). You can turn them off at any time in the app or device settings.
6. Cookies & advertising (website)
- Our website may display ads via Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and advertising identifiers to serve ads based on your visits.
- You can opt out of personalized ads via Google Ads Settings and www.aboutads.info, or configure your browser to refuse cookies.
- The mobile app currently shows no ads and does not track you across other apps.
7. Service providers & third parties
We rely on trusted providers that process limited data on our behalf under their own policies:
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging, Analytics, AdSense, Play Services): policies.google.com/privacy
- Apple (Push Notification service): apple.com/legal/privacy
- Cloudflare (content delivery & security): cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
We never sell your personal data, and share it only as needed to operate the service or where legally required.
8. Links to external news sources
Ajel aggregates headlines and summaries from publicly available news sources and always credits the original source with a link to its site. We do not control those sites’ content or privacy practices; please review each site’s own policy.
9. Data retention
We keep data only as long as needed for the purposes described. Your newsletter email remains until you unsubscribe; hashed abuse-prevention records are purged periodically; and you can remove the on-device identifier at any time by clearing your app or browser data.
10. Data security
We use in-transit encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all communications, hash IP addresses, and apply appropriate access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
11. Your rights & choices
Under Saudi Arabia’s Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) — and GDPR for EEA/UK residents and CCPA for California residents — you have the right to access, correct, delete, object to or restrict processing of, and port your data, and to withdraw consent. You also have the right not to have your data sold (we do not sell it). To exercise any right, email [email protected].
12. How to delete your data
You can delete your data in any of these ways:
- Full deletion request: email [email protected] with the subject “Delete my data”; we will process it within a reasonable period.
- Newsletter: click “unsubscribe” in any email, or via the subscription page.
- Device identifier: clear the app’s data or uninstall the app, or clear your browser data on the website.
- Notifications: turn them off in app/device settings to delete the token tied to your device.
13. International data transfers
Some data may be processed on our providers’ servers (e.g., Google, Cloudflare) outside your country of residence, with appropriate safeguards under applicable law.
14. Children’s privacy
Our services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy periodically; the updated version will be posted here with a revised “last updated” date.
