The Argentine Football Association is considering an exceptional measure to postpone the start of all local football competitions and activities for a full week, in the event that the national team wins the World Cup title in the final match scheduled this Sunday against their Spanish counterparts.
Argentine newspapers confirmed that the decision, which has not yet been officially finalized, comes for purely logistical and organizational reasons related to the massive expected arrangements to receive the national team delegation led by coach Lionel Scaloni.
The delegation is expected to arrive in the capital Buenos Aires on Tuesday, amid expectations of massive popular rallies, which will put enormous pressure on security forces and organizing teams across the country.
The Argentine Football Association aims through this approach to avoid overlapping domestic league commitments with the major security and logistical mobilization launched to secure popular celebrations. If the association finalizes this decision, it will include postponing the start of the top-flight league, suspending all matches in lower divisions and other football competitions, and delaying the anticipated final match between Estudiantes de La Plata and Independiente Rivadavia, which was scheduled for next Tuesday at the "Mario Alberto Kempes" stadium in Cordoba province for the Argentine Super Cup.
It added: "The final decision is directly linked to the result of the World Cup final, with official adjustments expected to be announced within hours of the final whistle, while local clubs await the situation to determine their schedule for next week."
