Rutab Season - Nahed Al-Agha
At the beginning of July each year, Buraidah sets the scene for its annual appointment; a tradition passed down through generations in the heart of Qassim, where date palms stand tall as guardians of time in a unique relationship: the farmer provides care, and in return, the tree gives the finest fruit. In this recurring spectacle, bunches hang from the treetops announcing the arrival of the harvest season, celebrating the region's heritage and leadership, and the food, agricultural, and economic legacy that generations have continued, making it one of the most prominent date production hubs in the Kingdom. Thus, the blessed tree rises with its towering stature and roots that plunge deep into history, outlining its productive strength, heralding a harvest eagerly awaited by farmers and markets alike, boosting local market supplies and cementing Qassim's position as a pivotal center in this field. This harvest represents an advanced model of integrated agricultural management, blending traditional knowledge with modern techniques. Quantitative and qualitative data confirm its pivotal role in enhancing food security and supporting Qassim's national standing as a production hub, with continued efforts to expand varieties and develop practices in response to market shifts and evolving needs. The region leads the sector through a comprehensive annual program comprising sixteen processes to ensure crop quality, encompassing more than 137 varieties, with Sukkari accounting for 76%, followed by Medjool, Suqa'i, and Khalas. Harvesting of rare varieties begins in early July, while the Sukkari harvest starts on the 20th of the same month. Quality reaches its peak ripeness during the first three weeks of August, the optimal period for storage and consumption.
Time and Calendars
Rutab dates have long resided in our collective memory, as a sustenance that revives the soul, a healing that mends the body, and a symbol of authentic Arab generosity that never fails a guest. The date palm has transcended being a seasonal gift to become part of the national heritage and sentiment, linked to the country's history and desert environment, and becoming a cultural symbol invoked in holidays and occasions, and gifted in official gatherings. With the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, this legacy has evolved into an economic and strategic sector, while preserving its deep-rooted cultural and social foundations. Dates have become an exceptional ambassador carrying the land's greeting to the world. The ancestors' dishes, from which they derived their energy and daily sustenance, have today become an authentic ingredient in global culinary arts. The boxes of premium dates that were once offered to guests as a token of hospitality now adorn store shelves in more than a hundred countries, bearing the Kingdom's name engraved and the story of its palm trees inscribed.
In this majestic scene, every towering palm is a witness to a historic passage, and every date is a complete poem whispering to the universe: Our roots are firmly planted in this good land, and our presence fills the horizons.
Look at them: how their roots extend into the depths of the earth unseen, then rise tall to the heavens, unshaken by wind and unburdened by heat. From our drooping fronds, wings are woven to soar into the global space, unafraid of competition and unafraid of the unknown, because we carry the secret of these lands:
Patience that never runs out, and generosity without limits. These are our dates, keys to our hearts; we extend them to others, carrying the fragrance of the place and the glow of identity.
