Saudi stocks rose at the highest daily pace in about two weeks by the end of today's trading, supported by gains in bank stocks and a number of leading companies, while the majority of stocks and sectors continued to decline.

The TASI index closed at 10,742 points, up 0.2%, and the index's gains did not reflect a broad improvement in the market, as 179 companies declined versus 78 companies rose, while the rest remained unchanged. Most sectors also declined.

The market shows some consolidation

Despite the limited contribution of companies to the rise of the general index, the market still shows some consolidation, which may pave the way for positive sessions that could reach levels close to 11,000 points. However, sustaining the rise requires more positive incentives.

Trading value jumped to approximately 4 billion riyals, an increase of 66%, and the rise comes due to the usual decline in activity on Sunday's session. Liquidity exceeded the 21-day average by about 0.9%.

Banks lead market gains

The largest support for the index came from the banking sector, which rose 1.2%, recording the second-best sector performance after pharmaceuticals, which rose 1.3%, following positive results that exceeded the average analyst expectations for Bank AlBilad and Arab National Bank.

All 10 bank stocks rose without exception, led by Arab National Bank which rose 4%, while AlBilad rose 2%. Banking sector trading reached about 859 million riyals, an increase of 193% from the previous session, accounting for 22% of total market liquidity.

After trading, Banque Saudi Fransi and Riyad Bank announced their financial results for the second quarter, showing profitability that exceeded the average analyst expectations, which enhances demand and improves expectations for the leading sector, supporting the general index.
