US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States will hold Iran responsible for Houthi attacks, warning that both 'will face severe military punishment' if attacks on navigation continue.

He added in a post on Truth Social that the United States attacked the Houthis with great force a year ago, due to their interference in trade and navigation, by firing at ships. He added: 'Since then, and during our conflict with Iran, they have acted very responsibly.'

He continued: 'Unfortunately, they have now begun to return to that again, as they fired at two Saudi ships last night.'

He said: 'Please let this post serve as a message that if they do it again, the United States will hold Iran responsible, given that the Houthis are a proxy force and/or agent of Iran, and severe military punishment will be imposed on Iran, and of course on the Houthis themselves, of whom I am very disappointed, as they have, so far, acted very professionally and intelligently.'

Trump was referring to the attacks that the United States launched against the Houthis in Yemen, which began on March 15, 2025, and the campaign stopped in April, with Washington announcing a ceasefire agreement.

A responsible source at the Saudi Transport General Authority had stated that the ship ENCELIA, owned by a Saudi company, was targeted while sailing in the Red Sea, resulting in a fire in the ship's bow.

The source confirmed to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) 'the safety of all crew members, and that all relevant authorities have taken all necessary measures to secure the ship and its crew and protect the marine environment.'

SPA reported that these attacks constitute a violation of international laws and norms that ensure the safety of commercial ships and their crews.
