Yassine Bounou saved a penalty as Morocco forced a goalless draw with France in the first half of their World Cup quarterfinal on Thursday.

Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made an early save, parrying a header from Dayot Upamecano in the first five minutes.

The referee awarded a penalty to France after Mbappé went down following a challenge from Noussair Mazraoui, with a long delay as the VAR reviewed the incident.

Mbappé stepped up and sent a poor shot, which Bounou had no trouble saving in the 28th minute.

Bounou maintained his formidable record in penalty kicks or shootouts, having conceded only twice from nine attempts.

Bounou has saved four penalties, while opponents have missed three.

Shortly after, Bounou kept his sheet clean by turning a low shot from Désiré Doué around the post for a corner.
