Saudi stocks trended towards stability, after gains in a number of leading stocks and sectors such as energy, banks, and telecommunications managed to reduce a broader loss the market had incurred during trading.

The TASI index closed at 10,717 points, losing only 3 points, and the limited decline does not reflect the full picture of the session, as weakness was concentrated in the majority of stocks and sectors, while the index benefited from the resilience of the largest weighted companies.

The market still shows a preference for holding at current price levels, as it awaits corporate financial results for the second quarter of this year.

The rise of Etihad Etisalat shares after the announcement of its profits shows the market's readiness to deal with positive data well. Continued stability of market companies' prices at current levels helps to respond positively to results when they are in line with or exceed average expectations.

Strong recovery from session lows

TASI opened at 10,714 points, rose at the start of trading before selling pressures escalated and dropped it to 10,652 points, with an intraday loss of 0.6%.

However, the index regained 64 points from its lows, equivalent to about 95% of its intraday loss. This behavior reflects demand at low levels, but it alone is not enough to confirm an improvement in the trend, especially given the weak breadth of the market and liquidity.

190 securities decline

The internal market movement was much weaker than the limited change in the index, as 190 securities declined, compared to 65 rises, and the rest remained unchanged. The gap widened compared to Thursday's session, where 140 companies declined.

At the sector level, 17 sectors declined, compared to the rest falling. Personal and household products led the losses with a decline of 2.1%. In contrast, gains were limited to 5 sectors, led by Energy which rose 0.6% and was the highest traded with a value of SAR 430 million.
