Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Madinah Region and Chairman of the Board of the Region Development Authority, the activities of the Madinah Dates Season launched today, in a step reflecting the economic, agricultural, and heritage importance of the region.

The organizers explained that the season comes as an extension of efforts to develop the agricultural sector and enhance the added value of the national product, by raising the competitiveness of Saudi dates and increasing their exports to global markets, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

The organizers pointed out that the Madinah Dates Season is an economic, developmental, and cultural platform that brings together farmers, investors, entrepreneurs, relevant entities, as well as visitors from inside and outside the Kingdom, through diverse programs including exhibitions, workshops, dialogue sessions, and interactive events, enhancing Madinah's position as a leading center in the palm and dates sector.

Historical Status and Diverse Production

The sources added that palm trees have been linked to the history of Madinah for thousands of years, as it was a flourishing agricultural oasis before Islam and was known for its fertile land and abundance of palm trees. It was also distinguished by the diversity of date varieties, foremost of which is Ajwa, in addition to Barni, Safawi, Anbara, Rothana, and Mabroom, which contributed to the fame of Madinah dates locally and globally.

For his part, the organizers affirmed that the season contributes to empowering farmers to market their products, and opens the door for productive families and entrepreneurs to showcase their innovations in date products and derivatives, in addition to supporting processing industries, packaging, and logistics services.

Sector Figures and Statistics

In the same context, statistics indicate that the Kingdom has more than 37.5 million palm trees, with an annual production of about 1.92 million tons of dates. Madinah Region ranks third in the Kingdom with a production of approximately 347,000 tons, representing 18% of the total date production in the Kingdom.

It is noteworthy that Saudi date exports have reached more than 133 countries, with an annual value of about SAR 1.695 billion, indicating the quality of the Saudi product and the success of national efforts to enhance its global competitiveness.

The Madinah Dates Season continues its role in highlighting the quality of the local product, supporting investment, and expanding export opportunities, thereby cementing Madinah's position as a source of the finest dates and an agricultural and cultural heritage spanning centuries, in line with national development goals.
