Chinese BYD Plans to Increase Its Showrooms in Saudi Arabia by 50%
Chinese BYD, the world's largest electric vehicle company, intends to increase the number of its showrooms in Saudi Arabia by 50% in the coming months, in parallel with expanding the development of electric vehicle charging stations, according to what was stated to Al-Eqtisadiah by General Manager of Al-Futtaim BYD Saudi Arabia, Jerome Saigot.
Saigot said the company currently operates 10 showrooms across the country, stressing that expanding the network of charging stations boosts customer confidence and encourages them to buy electric cars.
He explained that BYD offers in the Saudi market technologies including fully electric cars, alongside Super Hybrid technology, which he described as an "ideal transitional solution" that helps customers gradually transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles.
Super Hybrid technology is advanced hybrid systems that use the fuel engine as an electric generator for a range exceeding 1,000 km and very low fuel consumption.

The world's largest seller of electric cars
In 2025, BYD continued to strengthen its position as the world's largest seller of electric vehicles, surpassing Tesla, as the company ended the year selling 2.25 million fully electric cars, with annual growth of 27.9%.

In comparison, Tesla sold only 1.64 million cars, which itself recorded a decline of 9%, widening the gap between the two companies to more than 600,000 cars.
This shift is notable, especially since Tesla had dominated the market for years, before BYD managed to surpass it for the first time in 2024, then widened the gap during 2025.
The company sold a similar number of hybrid cars that combine electric and combustion engines, which account for about 50.4% of the company's total passenger car sales.

Registering 50 patents daily
Saigot pointed out that the BYD Group employs about one million employees, including 120,000 in research and development, and registers more than 50 patents daily, as part of its strategy based on innovation and technology development.
He said that BYD leads globally in sales of battery electric vehicles, and that the company is preparing to launch more models in the Saudi market, supporting the spread of green mobility solutions in Saudi Arabia.
He added that the company, in cooperation with Al-Futtaim Group, is working on rapidly expanding the showroom network for the BYD and Denza brands, aiming to reach customers in various regions of Saudi Arabia and offer products targeting diverse consumer segments.
He explained that BYD's lineup in Saudi Arabia currently includes 11 models covering fully electric cars, plug-in hybrid cars, pickup trucks, and seven-seater cars, in addition to the Tang 7 model that was recently launched, and the company also launched the Denza brand in Saudi Arabia to compete in the luxury car segment.
Saigot indicated that the electric vehicle market in Saudi Arabia is witnessing continuous growth, with increasing customer interest in this category of vehicles, adding that the company is working to make electric cars more accessible to consumers by expanding the infrastructure of charging stations and broadening model options and offers.
