Council of Economic and Development Affairs Reviews National Economy Updates and Government Performance

The Council of Economic and Development Affairs held a meeting via video conferencing. At the beginning of the meeting, the council reviewed the monthly report of the Ministry of Economy and Planning, which monitored the most important developments in the global economy and its growth paths in light of current regional changes, and their implications for the national economy, in addition to the opportunities enhanced by its positioning as a pivotal economic and logistical power in the region. The report indicated the high flexibility of the Kingdom's economy and the logistical system's demonstrated ability to adapt to global changes, highlighting the positive impact of various policies adopted by the Kingdom on growth rates, including stabilizing the inflation rate at one of the lowest levels globally and achieving a trade surplus driven by export growth, supporting the Kingdom's developmental efforts under Vision 2030.

The quarterly presentation from the National Center for Performance Measurement of Public Agencies (Adaa) was reviewed, which presented a report on the performance of public agencies for the first quarter of 2026, the performance of indicators and initiatives of government agencies under Vision 2030, the Center's work in activating the measurement of national strategies, monitoring agencies' contributions to national strategies, and various mechanisms supporting the improvement of these agencies' performance practices. The results showed an improvement in the percentage of initiatives on track and completed by government agencies in achieving their targets compared to the last quarter of 2025, with continued efforts to support these agencies, address challenges, and follow up on corrective plans to enhance government performance.

The council discussed the annual report submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Traffic Safety regarding traffic safety in the Kingdom as one of the key pillars of health transformation and strategic objectives of Vision 2030. The report reviewed the historical trend of traffic accident data, the results of strategic performance indicators for 2025 and their targets until 2027, an assessment of traffic conditions in the Kingdom's regions, a summary of the decisions of the ministerial and executive committees for traffic safety, and the most prominent achievements of relevant entities and their executive indicators. The report highlighted a qualitative leap and a leading global position in traffic safety, supported by the guidance of the wise leadership, achieved through integrated and intensive work within the system and joint efforts that resulted in a tangible and historic decline in traffic fatality rates, exceeding 60% in 2025 compared to 2016 levels, with continued efforts to achieve further progress in enhancing traffic safety, reflecting on quality of life and preserving the health and safety of citizens and residents.

During the meeting, several procedural matters were considered, including: the draft organizational arrangements for the Industrial Council. It was also briefed on the results of monitoring the health status of the Umrah season, the report prepared by the Ministry of Economy and Planning on the Kingdom's participation in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos 2026, the monthly report on the implementation of the executive plan for hosting headquarters of regional and international governmental organizations and bodies in the Kingdom, the quarterly report prepared by the Digital Government Authority on the performance of government agencies in the UN E-Government Development Index, the periodic report on the results of work completed by the National Framework Committee for Regulating Governance, Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit departments, the monthly executive summary of foreign trade, and the basic reports on which the summary was based.

The council took the necessary decisions and recommendations regarding these topics.
