The General Authority of Awqaf, represented by the Riyada Center, participated in a high-level roundtable organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York City, titled "Unlocking the Potential of Sustainable Development Financing: Governance, Impact Measurement, and the Future Role of Awqaf." This participation was part of the Kingdom's delegation to the 2026 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

The Authority explained that during the roundtable it showcased the Kingdom's experience in developing the endowment sector, and the institutional and regulatory progress achieved under the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, in addition to presenting the "Endowment Excellence Index" as a practical tool to support institutional maturity in the sector.

Discussing the Prospects of Endowments and Sustainable Financing

In the same context, the roundtable discussed the role of endowments as a sustainable financing tool contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and the importance of governance, transparency, and impact measurement in enhancing the efficiency of endowment institutions, increasing their reliability, and their contribution to economic and social development.

The Authority added that the discussions covered opportunities for expanding cooperation between countries of the Global South, exchanging experiences in the fields of endowments and sustainable financing, and building international partnerships to develop endowment models and enhance their presence in the development financing system.

Application of the Endowment Excellence Index and Strengthening International Presence

Participants noted the potential for applying the "Endowment Excellence Index" and adapting it to different institutional environments, and using it as a tool to support governance, performance measurement, and accountability, thereby contributing to the development of endowment institutions and the sustainability of their developmental impact.

It is noteworthy that the Authority's participation is part of its efforts to strengthen the international presence of the Saudi endowment experience, expand partnerships with international organizations, and highlight endowments as a sustainable financing model based on values and supporting development priorities.

The General Authority of Awqaf works to regulate, develop, and govern the endowment sector, and raise awareness through launching innovative endowment products and services, and applying best practices, to enhance the sector's impact on economic development and social solidarity.
