Gold retreats as Middle East tensions escalate
Gold prices edged lower as investors continue to assess the fallout from the escalation in the Middle East, which pushed oil prices higher and affected expectations for the path of US interest rates.
Silver rose 1.2% to $56.55.
Spot gold fell 0.2% to $4,007.91 per ounce, while US gold futures for August delivery slipped 0.1% to $4,015.90.
The decline came amid rising US bond yields and a stronger dollar, which pushed Brent crude to a one-month high.
In other precious metals, silver rose 1.2% to $56.55, platinum added 0.1% to $1,592.86, and palladium gained 0.9% to $1,258.83 per ounce.
