Manchester United has revealed the proposed location for its new 100,000-seat stadium as part of a vast redevelopment project of the Old Trafford area, a move that paves the way for the next phase of stadium design, according to the club's announcement.

New location

The new stadium will be located on a 25-acre site, approximately 350 meters northwest of the current Old Trafford stadium, after the club recently acquired the land from Indurent, making it part of the Trafford Wharfside development project.

The new location represents a change from initial plans to build the stadium west of Old Trafford on land owned by Freightliner, after negotiations stalled due to the high asking price for the land.

Urban development project

The stadium is part of a master plan to redevelop the surrounding area, aiming to create a mixed-use neighborhood with sports, entertainment, and commercial facilities, as well as improving public transport networks and pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

According to the plan, the project could create around 48,000 jobs and 15,000 homes, with expectations to add approximately £7.3 billion annually to the UK economy.

Preserving the legacy

Collette Roche, the chief executive officer of Manchester United's new stadium development project, said that the location allows the club to maintain its historic connection to Old Trafford and preserve the traditions and rituals associated with match days for fans.

She added that the club aims to build a world-class stadium in collaboration with fans, focusing on fan atmosphere, accessibility, and providing a suitable experience for the audience.

Design phase

Manchester United clarified that the images published for the project show only the proposed location and do not represent the final design of the stadium, noting that the next phase will involve preparing detailed designs and conducting consultations with fans and stakeholders.

The club has not yet decided the future of the current Old Trafford stadium after the completion of the new stadium.
