Saudi industrial production rises 3.2% in May month-on-month
Saudi Arabia's industrial production index increased by 3.2% in May 2026 compared to April, driven by improvements in several industrial activities, but declined 18.7% year-on-year due to a drop in mining and quarrying.
Data from the General Authority for Statistics showed that the Industrial Production Index in the Kingdom increased by 3.2% in May 2026 compared to April, driven by improved performance in several industrial activities.
The sub-index for manufacturing activity recorded a monthly growth of 1.6%, supported by a 5.9% increase in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, along with a 0.2% growth in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products.
The sub-index for electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply activities rose by 15.8% compared to the previous month, while water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities increased by 0.2%.
On an annual basis, the industrial production index decreased by 18.7% in May 2026 compared to the same period last year, affected by a 28.6% decline in mining and quarrying activity, in addition to a 6.2% decrease in manufacturing activity, resulting from a 16.7% drop in the production of coke and refined petroleum products, and a 4% decline in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products.
