US President Donald Trump announced the opening of a trade investigation into the European Union, accusing the bloc of targeting American technology companies by imposing large fines, and threatening to impose new tariffs.

If it is proven that it discriminates against American companies.

Trump explained that the investigation will be conducted under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, considering that the fines imposed by the European Union on companies such as Google, Apple, and Meta represent 'unfair' practices.

He stressed that his country will not be a piggy bank for Europe, noting that Washington will consider taking counter-trade measures, including imposing high tariffs if it is proven that the European Union discriminates against American companies.

This came after Google was fined about one billion dollars for violating European digital competition rules, as the European Commission stressed that its decisions aim to protect competition and consumer choices, and that the rules apply to all companies covered without discrimination.
