The US Department of Agriculture announced on Thursday via its official website two new soybean export deals, as part of its weekly sales activity, according to Bloomberg News.

Bloomberg quoted the department as saying the first deal involved the sale of 136,000 metric tons of soybeans sold to China for the 2026-2027 marketing season.

The second deal included 120,000 metric tons of soybeans sold to undisclosed buyers for the same 2026-2027 marketing season.

State-owned Chinese trading company COFCO Corp had announced two days ago that it bought at least five more cargoes of US soybeans for loading primarily between September and October 2026, according to sources familiar with the matter who declined to be identified, and COFCO could not be reached immediately for comment.

A soybean cargo typically amounts to about 60,000 tons. At the end of last month, the US Department of Agriculture said Chinese buyers committed to purchasing 200,000 tons of new US soybean crop, according to Bloomberg.

Trade Truce

This revival in trade between the two countries comes after the summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in May, and will help support expectations that Beijing will increase imports of US agricultural goods as both sides work to meet their commitments within their broader trade track.

The White House said China agreed to buy at least $17 billion worth of US agricultural products, plus at least 25 million tons of soybeans annually through 2028, although Beijing has not publicly confirmed these figures.

Chinese officials said the two sides are working to ease tariffs on some agricultural products and maintain the truce reached last year.
