The US Department of Homeland Security said Thursday it is investigating a breach of an information-sharing network that it did not name.

In a statement, the department said a 'cyber incident occurred recently' involving 'a non-classified information-sharing environment,' but provided no further details.

The news outlet GovExec (a leading intelligence and media platform dedicated to the public service sector), which first reported the news, indicated that the breach affected the Homeland Security Information Network, a platform used to share sensitive but unclassified data with partners, including foreign law enforcement agencies, local authorities, and other organizations.

The outlet quoted two informed sources, who were not named, as saying that the breach is believed to have occurred between late May and early June.

He called on the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to 'conduct a thorough investigation' to uncover who breached the network and what information they obtained.
