This advanced network comes as part of joint efforts to facilitate access for visitors and tourists to the natural and cultural landmarks and heritage villages that the region abounds with, giving them the opportunity to explore its natural beauty and ancient history.

The extensive road network has contributed to connecting the region with various parts of the Kingdom through several main axes, including the Abha / Taif road (289 km), Khamis Mushait / Riyadh road (272 km), Bisha / Al Rayn road (160 km), Khamis Mushait / Najran road (130 km), and the coastal Jeddah - Jazan road (126 km).

The network also includes other vital roads, such as the Mahayel / Al Majardah road (75 km), Bisha / Khamis Mushait road (120 km), Abha / Al Darb "Aqabat Dala'" road (64 km), Mahayel / Sa'idah Al Sawalha road (61 km), Aqabat Al Tawhid road (19 km), Mahayel / Shaar "Aqabat Shaar" road (48 km), and Rania road (45 km).

The roads leading to tourist sites include the Al Mulahah / Al Souda road leading to Al Souda Park and archaeological museums, the Rida Reserve road leading to Rida Reserve, the Aqabat Al Samma road leading to the heritage village in Rijal Alma' and Mahayel Asir, the Abha / Taif road leading to summer tourist governorates such as Ballahmar, Ballasmar, Tanumah, and Al Namas, the Riyadh road leading to heritage houses and parks, the coastal Jazan / Al Sawalha road leading to the Asir waterfront, and the Khamis Mushait / Najran road leading to Al Habala Tourist Park and heritage houses. These roads serve as vital links facilitating access to the unique cultural and natural diversity of the region. These efforts to support tourism come in partnership between the General Authority for Roads and the Saudi Tourism Authority, as the road sector is a vital enabler for the tourism sector. The General Authority for Roads oversees its regulation by setting necessary policies and legislation, aiming to achieve the targets of the Roads Sector Program, which focuses on safety, quality, and traffic density standards.
