Shahin explained that attendees discussed the importance of implementing the Public Performance Rights Law in Egypt, in line with systems in place in many countries, affirming that the goal is to ensure artists receive their rights similar to what happens in the United States, Europe, and a number of Arab countries.

The meeting coincided with the rising controversy over public performance rights, amid artists' demands to regulate them, versus objections from a number of production companies and the Cinema Industry Chamber to apply this right, based on legal interpretations that they are not obligated to pay those dues.
