Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) -- Can you imagine crossing from Switzerland to Italy while suspended in the air over the snow-covered peaks of the Alps? That is what a Libyan content creator experienced during an exceptional journey via the 'Matterhorn Alpine Crossing' cable car.

The 'Matterhorn Alpine Crossing' project is known as the highest cable car mountain crossing in Europe, and the first cable car in the world to connect two countries, allowing visitors to travel between the Swiss town of Zermatt and the Italian town of Cervinia via a series of cable car lifts that cross the Alps at an altitude of about 3,500 meters above sea level.

Libyan travel content creator Waleed Al-Misrati said in an interview with CNN Arabic that what drove him to take this experience is the strangeness of the idea and its difference from any traditional means of travel.

He adds: 'You can take the cable car from Switzerland, and within minutes find yourself in Italy or vice versa, and that idea alone was enough to make me want to experience it.'

Al-Misrati notes that the project was recently opened in 2023, and many people around the world still do not know about its existence, which made him excited to share this experience with his followers, especially since he prefers to highlight unique places that are still unknown to many.

He explains that the Matterhorn was always on his list of places he dreamed of visiting, noting that millions of people see the mountain daily on Swiss chocolate wrappers, without many realizing it is a real mountain located between Switzerland and Italy.

Al-Misrati describes the journey as more than just a means of transportation, as it begins with a series of cable car lifts that carry passengers between the peaks of the Alps amid constantly changing natural scenery.

He says: 'I was there in July, in the height of summer, where the temperature was high down below, but as we climbed toward the Matterhorn, the scene changed completely, and suddenly visitors find themselves in the middle of snow as if they had moved to another season.'

The journey offers panoramic views of the mountain landscapes and glaciers in both Zermatt and Cervinia, crossing the border between Switzerland and Italy at an altitude of approximately 3,500 meters above sea level.

Al-Misrati adds that what amazed him most during the journey was the idea of 'open borders' between the two countries, explaining that moving between Switzerland and Italy amid the mountains gives a completely different feeling from traditional travel.

He says: 'In many places around the world, borders are associated with barriers and complications, but here you feel that nature is stronger than any border, as you move smoothly between two different countries with two different languages and cultures. Yet everything is beautifully interconnected.'

The Libyan travel content creator believes that what makes this experience different from any other travel adventure is the idea of crossing between two countries via a cable car over the Alps, instead of using a plane, car, or train.

He adds: 'You feel like you traveled from one country to another by plane, but without an airport and the usual complications associated with travel.'

During the journey, Al-Misrati enjoyed watching the white and blue glaciers and snow-covered peaks even in the peak of summer, describing the scene as 'closer to a moving natural painting.'

The video he published on his Instagram account garnered widespread interaction, with many followers expressing their amazement at the possibility of traveling between two countries via a cable car suspended over the mountains.
