Tourism and Entertainment / Rehabilitation Project of the Waterfront in Historic Jeddah in Its Second Phase Reconnects the Sea with the Region's Cultural Heritage

Jeddah, Dhu al-Hijjah 24, 1447 AH corresponding to June 10, 2026, SPA -- The waterfront rehabilitation project in the historic Jeddah area is progressing rapidly, as part of the Ministry of Culture's efforts to revitalize historic Jeddah, aiming to enhance the heritage and cultural value of the area and reconnect it with the sea in line with its historical status as one of the most important historical ports on the Red Sea coast. The project, currently in its second phase, is one of the qualitative development initiatives targeting the rehabilitation of Al-Arbaeen Lake and its surrounding waterfront through environmental treatment works and marine infrastructure development, contributing to improving water quality and marine environmental sustainability, as well as enhancing the tourist and recreational attractiveness of the area.

The current phase of the project includes dredging and reshaping the basin of Al-Arbaeen Lake, constructing a 972-meter-long marine quay, implementing 490 meters of retaining seawalls, in addition to developing supporting infrastructure in preparation for subsequent operational phases. The work also includes reshaping an area of approximately one million square meters of the lake, and constructing a suspended platform on pillars with an area of 1,313 square meters, supporting the integration of the area with the surrounding urban fabric.

The project aims to revive historical sites adjacent to the waterfront and highlight their heritage identity, while providing an integrated urban environment that supports tourism and recreational activities, and contributes to improving the quality of life for residents and visitors. The project recently recorded one million safe working hours with the participation of 690 employees and workers, affirming its commitment to applying the highest standards of occupational safety at various work sites.

The waterfront rehabilitation project is implemented in three main phases: preliminary works and reshaping of the marine environment, then environmental treatment and marine development, leading to the construction of integrated urban and recreational facilities including yacht marinas, green spaces, pedestrian bridges, and various public facilities, enhancing the status of historic Jeddah as a global cultural and tourist destination and achieving sustainable urban development goals. // End // 14:23 PM 0082
