Russian physician Denis Prokofiev, a specialist in internal medicine, has warned of the dangers of trans fats, which are widespread in most food products available in markets.

He confirmed that these ingredients are heavily used in the food industry to reduce costs, but their regular consumption is associated with an increased risk of cancer.

Prokofiev explained that trans fats are carcinogenic compounds, and consuming them with sugar raises the likelihood of developing visceral obesity.

He also pointed out that daily consumption of these products leads to a significant increase in the risk of cancer, noting that they are found in most processed foods except for fresh fruits and vegetables, as reported by Russia Today.

The doctor added that the dangers of trans fats are not limited to cancer but extend to disrupting the functions of vital organs, impairing metabolic processes, harming the digestive system, causing cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerosis, as well as negatively affecting the burning of fats, carbohydrates, and purines.

Prokofiev advised carefully reading product labels to avoid these fats, stressing that fresh fruits and vegetables remain the safe option free of these harmful compounds.
