Artist Yasser Al-Toubji recounts chance encounter that led to his cancer diagnosis
Egyptian artist Yasser Al-Toubji revealed the details of the difficult health ordeal he went through in recent months.
The Egyptian comedian appeared on the podcast "Shagat al-Taawon" on YouTube alongside his colleague, artist Hussam Dagher, to discuss his artistic career.
But Al-Toubji was surprised by a question from his colleague about the details of his health ordeal and what he went through in recent months. He hesitated to talk about it, noting that he did not intend to discuss what happened.
However, his colleague Hussam Dagher's desire to reassure his fans prompted Al-Toubji to speak, noting that he had been undergoing treatment for a condition called "colonic diverticula" and after completing the treatment phase, the doctor told him he had overcome the crisis. Despite this, Al-Toubji still felt he was ill, but he decided to settle for what his treating physician told him.
On one occasion, Al-Toubji met a surgeon whom he had not seen for 10 years. He went to him with his wife for her to undergo tests. When the doctor saw him, he was surprised by his significant weight loss and asked him about the reasons, whether it was due to a new role he was playing or not, and requested that he undergo a colonoscopy, insisting on the procedure.
When Al-Toubji postponed the procedure, the doctor contacted him and asked him to undergo the colonoscopy and send him the results. After the procedure, the Egyptian artist tried to contact the lab to find out the results, but he did not get a clear answer about the outcome.
He later learned that his wife and brother had known the result of the biopsy and had hidden it from him. Faced with his insistence on contacting the lab, the official told him that the result had already been sent to his family. Then they informed him that he had a cancerous tumor, which came as a great shock to him.
Al-Toubji could not control himself during the interview, and tears streamed down his face as he spoke about this health setback, revealing that throughout this ordeal he was thinking about his children and family.
The Actors' Syndicate supported Yasser Al-Toubji during this ordeal, and the head of the syndicate, Ashraf Zaki, recommended an oncologist to perform surgery that lasted about 7 hours.
