The Saudi Food and Drug Authority confirmed that it prevented the entry of more than 301 tons of non-compliant food products into the Kingdom during the second quarter of 2026, after they were found to be contaminated with microbes that could lead to food poisoning.

The Authority stated that 'this measure is part of its ongoing regulatory efforts to protect consumer health and enhance compliance with approved regulations and requirements, reflecting the effectiveness of the regulatory system in verifying the safety of food products and protecting public health.'

In the same context, the Authority carried out 17,096 inspection visits to facilities under its supervision during the same period, resulting in the detection of 1,960 violating facilities and 1,016 non-compliant products, as part of its efforts to raise the level of compliance and ensure facilities' adherence to technical regulations and rules.

The Authority highlighted the need to comply with official regulations and legislation, stressing the continuation of its regulatory efforts on products and facilities under its oversight, and taking legal action against violators, which may include suspension of activity, imprisonment, or fines up to 10 million Saudi riyals.

The Authority called on everyone to report any observed violations via the unified number 19999.
