Kinder Chocolate Bars Contain Carcinogenic Substances
German NGO Foodwatch has revealed that Kinder chocolate bars contain mineral oils that may cause cancer, calling for their recall.
Ferrero Group, which produces Kinder chocolate, confirmed that a variety of different products contain aromatic mineral oils (MOAH), noting that it is developing technical solutions to reduce them as much as possible.
Foodwatch, founded in Germany in 2002, explained that Kinder bars and Lindt's Fioretto Nougat Mini chocolates sold in Germany are contaminated with what are known as aromatic mineral oils from the chocolate wrappers, and wrote on its website that this type of oil can cause cancer and lead to genetic disorders.
The French confectionery industry union (BDSI), which includes both Ferrero and Lindt, said that confectionery groups in Germany have made great efforts in recent years to reduce the levels of these substances and have achieved good results.
However, Foodwatch confirmed that the tests conducted showed levels higher than the acceptable limits for aromatic mineral oils in Kinder bars and Lindt pieces, noting that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) considers these substances capable of causing cancer.
