Against the clock..

A specialized vascular surgery team at King Fahd Hospital in Medina successfully performed two advanced surgeries to repair thoracic aortic ruptures in two patients from separate road accidents, using endovascular stent grafting technique, in urgent medical interventions carried out within one day.

The Medina Health Cluster explained that the first case was a male patient in his thirties, who arrived at the emergency department in critical condition following a road accident, resulting in head and liver injuries, lung contusions, as well as a hemorrhagic tear in the thoracic aorta. The cluster added that the second case was a female patient in her twenties, who was involved in a road accident resulting in a pelvic fracture, lung contusions, abdominal bruises, along with a tear in the thoracic aorta accompanied by bleeding.

The cluster stated that upon receiving both cases in the emergency department, necessary medical examinations were performed and urgent medical support was provided to stabilize their conditions before summoning the rapid intervention team specialized in aortic injuries, and devising an urgent treatment plan based on medical priorities, beginning with repairing the tear and controlling bleeding. The medical team was able to perform two advanced endovascular interventions by placing stents inside the aorta to isolate the tear sites and stop the bleeding, which helped restore hemodynamic stability for both patients, racing against time given the severity of the injuries. The cluster confirmed that both patients left the hospital in good health after receiving the necessary medical care and follow-up during recovery, following the success of the medical interventions and stabilization of their health condition.
