Perhaps one of the most famous and beautiful things said about hope is the verse by the poet Mu'ayyad al-Din al-Tughra'i:

I soothe my soul with hopes, awaiting them— How narrow life would be without hope's expanse. This poetic line sums up a profound human truth: hope is not a psychological luxury nor rosy dreams, but an energy that drives a person, in the darkest circumstances and severest hardships, to face life's challenges, both psychological and physical crises.

Among the most remarkable scenes of hope is what the Prophet, peace be upon him, said at the peak of the moral and physical crisis experienced by the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, at the beginning of the Meccan call—likely about eight years before the Hijra. It is narrated in the Prophetic hadith from Khabbab ibn al-Aratt, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: 'We complained to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, while he was reclining on his cloak in the shade of the Kaaba, and we said: "Will you not seek victory for us? Will you not supplicate for us?" He said: "There were those before you; a man would be taken and a pit would be dug for him in the earth…" until he said, peace be upon him, "But that did not turn him away from his religion. By Allah, this matter will be completed until a rider travels from Sanaa to Hadramawt, fearing none but Allah, and the wolf for his sheep, but you are impatient."'

Discussion of this lofty human value, without which no coherent life is possible, coincides with the 'International Day of Hope,' which falls on the twelfth (12) of this July. This occasion has been officially adopted by the United Nations. The World Health Organization defines mental health as the ability to cope with stress, work productively, and contribute to society. Research consistently shows that higher levels of hope are associated with lower rates of depression, anxiety, and trauma-related stress.

Observing the International Day of Hope requires concerted efforts, starting with raising awareness and fostering a culture of hope in society through organizing specialized seminars, implementing interactive school activities, and launching awareness campaigns that consolidate the values of optimism and elevate awareness of the importance of hope in life, whether for individuals or communities.

Moreover, community participation comes through establishing forums, activating guidance and counseling programs, and setting up support groups to enhance social cohesion.

We should also not overlook the cultural aspect in consolidating this value, through organizing art exhibitions, cultural shows, and storytelling sessions about successful individuals that reflect their inspiring and motivating experiences, in addition to volunteer initiatives that play an important role in enhancing social solidarity and reducing the prevailing individualism in some societies.
