Imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Awad Al-Juhani, emphasized in the Friday sermon the necessity of fearing God, truthfulness in words and deeds, self-accountability, pondering over the Quran, and maintaining what God has commanded to be maintained of faith, acts of worship, kindness to parents, maintaining family ties, and benevolence towards the poor, neighbors, and orphans. He explained that the motivation for that is fear...
Imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Awad Al-Juhani, advised Muslims to fear God Almighty, adopt truthfulness in words, deeds, and states, hold themselves accountable before the Day of Reckoning, and ponder over what is recited from the Book, for God Almighty has praised those who maintain what He has commanded to be maintained.
He said in the Friday sermon delivered today at the Grand Mosque: "God has called you to Paradise, so where are the respondents? He has praised these deeds and their doers, so where are the doers? Indeed, those who maintain what God has commanded to be maintained are those who believe in God, believe in the Messenger (peace be upon him and his family), believe in what he brought, perform righteous deeds, fear their Lord, dread the evil reckoning, endure patiently in obedience, struggle against their souls to abandon prohibitions, maintain family ties, are benevolent to the poor, neighbors, and orphans, are dutiful to parents, renounce evil and immorality, enjoin good, forbid evil, and remember God much; and indeed, the remembrance of God is greatest."
Scholar Al-Saadi (may God have mercy on him) said: "This is general to everything God commanded to maintain: faith in Him and His Messenger (peace be upon him and his family), love for Him and His Messenger, submission to His worship alone without partner, obedience to His Messenger; they maintain their parents by being dutiful in word and deed, not disobeying them; they maintain relatives and kin by kindness in word and deed; they maintain ties with spouses and companions by fulfilling their rights fully, both religious and worldly rights."
His Eminence explained that the reason that makes a servant maintain what God has commanded to maintain is the fear of God and the dread of the Day of Reckoning. Hence He said: 'And they fear their Lord', meaning they fear Him; their fear of Him and of appearing before Him on the Day of Reckoning prevents them from daring to disobey God or falling short in anything God has commanded, out of fear of punishment and hope for reward. He warned against the regret of passing away and not being like those who have left their records blackened with sins, deluded by hope and procrastination. Had they considered the recompense, they would have prepared for it. He asked God Almighty to purify us from the filth of sins and forgive us for the grave sins we have committed.
The Imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque advised Muslims to maintain the connection between them and their Lord by frequent remembrance and gratitude to Him, by much charity, by taking provision from this world for the Hereafter, taking from health for sickness, from free time for busyness, from wealth for poverty, from security for fear, from joy for sorrow, for matters do not remain on one course; often circumstances change to their opposite, 'And such days We alternate among the people' (Quran 3:140). And they should ask God for help, guidance, success, and rectitude, for all matters are in His hand, and the servant only has to take the means, increase supplication to God, seek His forgiveness, seek refuge in Him, and draw near to God by obeying Him and obeying His Messenger (peace be upon him and his family) with much submission.
