Al-Jas'ei leads Saudi delegation at 49th session of Codex Alimentarius Commission in Geneva

CEO of Saudi Food and Drug Authority Hisham Al-Jas'ei chaired the Kingdom's delegation participating in the 49th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, held in Geneva from 6 to 10 July 2026, to discuss food safety, capacity building, scientific support, and implementation of the Codex Strategic Plan.

The CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, Professor Dr. Hisham bin Saad Al-Jas'ei, leads the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's delegation participating in the 49th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 6 to 10 July 2026, attended by authority leaders and representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), member states, and observers.

The session opened with speeches from the Director-General of FAO, the Director-General of WHO, and the Chairperson of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, Dr. Alan Azzili.

The meeting addresses several agenda items, including the work of specialized Codex committees, capacity-building and scientific support activities, as well as discussing emerging food safety issues and reviewing the implementation report of the Commission's strategic plan.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission is a joint body of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), established in 1963, with 189 member countries, and oversees the preparation of international food standards through its specialized committees and technical task forces.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia joined the Codex Alimentarius Commission in 1968 and currently holds the position of Vice-Chair since its election in 2024, in addition to its membership in the Executive Committee of the Commission.
