1.6 Million to Import Two Tobacco Shipments
The Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) announced the arrest of employees, officials, and businessmen in several ministries on charges of bribery and corruption in various sectors.
The Authority affirmed its continued pursuit of financial and administrative corruption crimes, and holding perpetrators accountable even after their service ends, stressing that these crimes are not subject to statute of limitations, and that it will apply regulations against all violators without leniency. The cases include: - Arrest of a businessman who offered a 1.6 million riyal bribe to facilitate the entry of two tobacco shipments through Jeddah Islamic Port without paying due customs fees amounting to 14 million riyals. - Arrest of an employee at the Ministry of Health for receiving 900,000 riyals in exchange for awarding projects in an irregular manner. - Apprehension of a resident working on a project under the Ministry of Energy while receiving 200,000 riyals in exchange for not issuing violations worth 1.5 million riyals. - Apprehension of an expert delegated by the Commercial Court for receiving 50,000 riyals out of 100,000 in exchange for preparing a technical report in favor of one party to a dispute. - Arrest of a former passport officer for receiving 60,500 riyals in exchange for processing expatriate transactions. - Apprehension of an employee at the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority for receiving 55,000 riyals in exchange for modifying the status of incoming goods. - Arrest of two employees at a municipality in one of the governorates for receiving 40,000 riyals in exchange for processing transactions. - Apprehension of an employee at a secretariat of one of the regions while receiving 10,000 riyals out of 50,000 in exchange for processing a transaction. - Apprehension of an employee at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development for receiving 10,000 riyals in exchange for not issuing violations. - Arrest of an employee at the ministry and a citizen after the former received 2,500 riyals in exchange for issuing an incorrect letter to cancel an absence report and transfer sponsorship. - Arrest of four employees at a municipality for making irregular appointments of their relatives and disbursing salaries to residents and benefiting from them. - Arrest of a resident at a health facility for issuing a medical report and laboratory test for an expatriate without his presence. - Arrest of an employee at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs for seizing computer devices from the ministry's warehouse. - Apprehension of an employee at a driving school for receiving a sum of money in exchange for issuing a driver's license without attendance. - Arrest of a periodic inspection station manager and an employee at the station for receiving sums of money in exchange for completing vehicle inspection procedures in irregular ways.
