The Madinah Region Development Authority is preparing to showcase its pioneering experience in localizing the Sustainable Development Goals during the proceedings of the 2026 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, organized by the United Nations in New York City until July 16, as part of the Kingdom's delegation led by the Ministry of Economy and Planning, by presenting an advanced model that transforms the sustainable development goals from general indicators into executive tools that drive decision-making at the local level. The participation of the Madinah region comes at a pivotal stage in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, as the world enters the last five years to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting the Saudi experience in Madinah as an advanced model in employing spatial data, multi-level governance, and urban planning to enhance development efficiency and improve quality of life. During the forum, Madinah presents the "Madinah Approach," which relies on diagnosing development at the neighborhood level, enabling the identification of development gaps and directing interventions based on accurate data, in a shift that goes beyond aggregate indicators to understanding the development reality at the local level, supporting the principle of "leaving no one behind." The Development Authority showcases a package of initiatives and tools it has developed to support this approach, including the second Local Voluntary Review 2026, the Sustainable Development Atlas for Madinah Neighborhoods, the Madinah Resilience Report, and the "Manara" Urban Data Platform, which represents an integrated system to support urban planning and data-driven decision-making. His Excellency the Mayor of the Region and CEO of the Development Authority, Engineer Fahd bin Mohammed Al-Bulaishi, represents Madinah at the Ninth Local and Regional Governments Forum, and the participation includes Madinah's presence in several main forum events, a high-level session titled "Transformation from the Base to the Top: Action at the Local Level," as well as official meetings and side events related to the Sustainable Development Goals, strengthening Madinah's position among the leading international experiences in urban development.
Madinah's participation in the 2026 High-Level Political Forum confirms its international presence as a human-centered, data-driven, quality-of-life urban model, by presenting globally applicable tools that contribute to accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthening international partnerships in shaping the future of sustainable cities.
