Between Preserving or Spilling One's Water of the Face - Othman bin Hamad Aba al-Khail
In the age of harmful noise on social media platforms, many people no longer care about human privacy, and violations have become widespread across most platforms. One of the most important and noble of these privacies is preserving 'water of the face,' which expresses the dignity of a person who understands its meaning. Water of the face is the most valuable thing a person possesses; glory be to Him who made water of the face more precious than gold, diamonds, and jewels. When a person preserves his water of the face, he avoids embarrassment and humiliation before others regardless of mistakes or difficult situations. This is what is called 'spilling his water of the face.' In the details of life, there are those who love to spill another's water of the face and embarrass them without giving enough time to preserve it. Giving is not only money, but how we preserve the water of faces, soothe hearts, and draw smiles. In fact, spilling a person's water of the face is like spilling his blood. Do those who enjoy spilling others' water of the face, as if they own the world, realize this?
Antara ibn Shaddad.
Islam does not permit us to spill the water of people's faces, and commands us to preserve their personalities by appreciating them, respecting them, not insulting them, not embarrassing them, and preserving their feelings and emotions. Likewise, our Islamic religion has urged us to refrain from spilling the water of others' faces in many ways, including blaming, reproaching, reprimanding, harsh criticism, and reminding others of favors. The phrase 'face of Ibn Fahra' is a famous Najdi folk saying used for a person who is extremely rude, completely devoid of modesty, who does not care what he says and does not care about the feelings of those he addresses. Such people are many in every society; they are stripped of modesty. You may find this type of person at your workplace, on the street, in the market, in the hospital, and everywhere people gather. From ‘Imran ibn Husain, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: 'Modesty does not bring anything but good.' (Agreed upon). It is advice not to speak with or sit with a person who plays the role of Ibn Fahra. And greater than that, stay away from a person who has lost his water of the face, for he thinks that others around him are like him, that they do not preserve their water of the face. What personally bothers me is some people's responses to the questioner. They are unfair responses that humiliate the humanity of the questioner. How beautiful it would be if the response were in a soft and easy style even if the questioner's request cannot be fulfilled.
There are entities that give in-kind items, but they insist on printing or engraving the name of the giver or their institution on them prominently. This happens often. If this giving is for publicity, then it is fine. But if it is for preserving water of the face, then where is that? It is not so.
A whisper.
Water of life and water of the face are both essential for human life. I ask about the feelings of one who has lost either of them.
