Former Certified Accountant and Two Entities Apprehended for Practicing Without License
The Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants (SOCPA) apprehended a former certified accountant whose license had been revoked, and two commercial establishments that advertised accounting and auditing services without obtaining a statutory license to practice the profession. Legal measures were taken against them and they were referred to the Public Prosecution. SOCPA explained that preliminary monitoring and investigation procedures revealed that the former certified accountant issued an audit report on financial statements after his license was revoked, which is a criminal act under the law. The procedures also revealed that the two commercial establishments offered accounting and auditing services through their websites and social media platforms without obtaining a license to practice the profession. SOCPA confirmed that these practices fall under the criminal acts stipulated in Article 10 of the Accounting and Auditing Profession Law, which criminalizes misleading the public, by any means, into believing that a person has the right to practice the profession without obtaining a license, or if the license has been canceled or suspended. SOCPA emphasized the importance of all practitioners and establishments complying with relevant regulations, laws, and decisions, and not practicing the profession or advertising accounting and auditing services and their branches except after obtaining the statutory license, to avoid falling under penalties and legal procedures. SOCPA called on the public and beneficiaries to verify the data of licensees through the lists published on SOCPA's official website, and to report any violative practices or advertisements through the approved communication channels.
