His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Madinah Region, stressed the importance of institutionalizing work and enhancing integration among relevant authorities to ensure the efficient implementation of strategic projects, enhance water security, improve water service quality, and meet the needs of residents and visitors, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

This came during his review of water sector projects in Madinah Region, in the presence of Eng. Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Al-Sheikh, Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and Local Content at the Saudi Water Authority.

His Highness reviewed the efforts of the Saudi Water Authority in regulating the water sector, enabling its system, and overseeing the implementation of its targets, along with key initiatives and strategic projects underway to enhance water security, improve water system efficiency, and increase the reliability of services provided to beneficiaries. The current water production capacity in the region is 1.22 million cubic meters per day, with a target to increase it to 1.69 million cubic meters per day by 2030. Eng. Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Al-Sheikh presented an overview to His Highness of the major water system projects in Madinah Region, foremost among them desalination, strategic storage, water transmission, wastewater treatment and reuse projects, in addition to projects implemented in partnership with the private sector with investments exceeding 6.8 billion riyals. These projects include the Yanbu (4) desalination plant with a production capacity of 450,000 cubic meters per day, the Madinah (3) wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters per day, and the Rabigh-Madinah water transmission line with a capacity of 500,000 cubic meters per day, contributing to enhancing water supplies in the region's governorates, meeting the needs of residents, serving visitors to the Prophet's Mosque, and keeping pace with the growing demand for water services. The presentation also covered strategic storage projects in the region, including the construction of 11 reservoirs in Madinah with a total capacity of 1.87 million cubic meters, in addition to the strategic storage project in Yanbu with a capacity of 340,000 cubic meters, enhancing the system's readiness and supply reliability under normal and emergency conditions. The presentation also highlighted the efforts of the Saudi Water Authority's branch in Madinah Region to strengthen oversight and regulatory work, and monitor compliance of water activities, with 9,164 inspection visits conducted and 3,490 violations recorded, contributing to raising service efficiency, enhancing supply reliability, and improving the quality of services provided to residents.
