Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman discussed on Sunday with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan and Omani counterpart Badr al-Busaidi efforts to de-escalate and enhance security and stability in the region.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry said in two statements that this came during two separate calls that covered bilateral relations, latest regional developments, and joint diplomatic coordination.

Mohammed bin Abdulrahman stressed the need for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement what has been agreed upon within the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.

He indicated that this includes ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to maintain the region's security and enhance regional stability.

During his call with al-Busaidi, the Qatari official stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of the Sultanate of Oman over its territorial waters.

He renewed Qatar's support for all efforts aimed at defusing tension and reaching a comprehensive agreement that achieves sustainable peace in the region.

The two calls come within a regional diplomatic movement to contain the escalation between the United States and Iran, and push towards resuming negotiations, amid concerns about the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The confrontation between Washington and Tehran entered its second week after US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 the end of the ceasefire stipulated in the memorandum of understanding signed on June 18, 2026.

Trump's announcement came after Iran targeted three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, as Tehran insists on imposing a mechanism to regulate the passage of ships through the strategic corridor, while Washington demands what it says is ensuring freedom of navigation and its security in the strait.

The escalation disrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and threatened aviation and energy supplies, amid intermittent closures of airspaces and warnings of targeting American facilities and interests outside the Middle East.
