Washington, 25 Muharram 1448 AH, corresponding to July 10, 2026, SPA – The Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Canada, Amal bint Yahya Al-Moallemi, affirmed that the visit of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to the Kingdom, and the announcement of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding during it, culminate a new phase of openness and cooperation in relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Canada. Ambassador Al-Moallemi said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency: "Since the resumption of diplomatic relations and the exchange of ambassadors in 2023, bilateral relations have witnessed growing momentum, based on mutual respect and common interests, and supported by the joint will of both sides to elevate them to broader horizons." She added: "Since my arrival in 2023, I have worked to enhance this momentum by building close relations with government entities, the private sector, and Canadian academic institutions. I have felt a positive response from various Canadian partners, especially the business sector, which has shown increasing interest in investment and cooperation opportunities with the Kingdom, as well as universities and academic institutions that have welcomed the return of Saudi students and provided them with quality opportunities in education, training, and scientific research, reflecting the depth of educational ties that have long linked the two countries." She continued that the embassy played a pivotal role in introducing the investment opportunities available in the Kingdom and the factors that contributed to creating an attractive environment for investments, in addition to showcasing the achievements of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the associated investment opportunities. She noted that the mutual official visits between senior officials of the two countries enhanced this trend and contributed to expanding areas of cooperation in several sectors, including economic, scientific, and technical sectors. Ambassador Al-Moallemi pointed out that Canada received, within a short period, visits from a number of Their Excellencies ministers from the Kingdom, including the Minister of Education, the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Minister of Investment, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. These visits discussed prospects for cooperation in priority sectors. In return, the Kingdom witnessed high-level visits from the Canadian side, including the Minister of International Trade, the Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Innovation, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, culminating with the visit of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, accompanied by the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Defense, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in a clear indication of the momentum in bilateral relations and the mutual desire to elevate them to broader levels of cooperation. She explained that as part of efforts to enhance mutual relations between the Kingdom and Canada, the activation of the Saudi-Canadian Friendship Committees in the Shura Council and the Canadian Parliament was also announced. On the community and academic levels, she said: "I have made a point of visiting a number of Canadian provinces and participating in graduation ceremonies for cohorts of Saudi students, confirming the embassy's interest in the nation's sons studying in Canada. The embassy also attached great importance to strengthening its relations with Canadian universities and academic and professional institutions, including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, in support of cooperation in education, training, and professional accreditation." Ambassador Amal Al-Moallemi concluded her statement by affirming that these collective efforts reflect a new phase in Saudi-Canadian relations, based on building sustainable partnerships, enhancing scientific and investment exchange, and expanding horizons of cooperation to serve the interests of the two friendly countries, in line with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and Canada's direction towards diversifying its international economic partnerships.
