Roads and Transport Authority Announces Launch of Third Cycle of Safety Awards

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the launch of the third cycle of the RTA Safety Awards 2011, which includes six categories aimed at honoring the best consultant, contractor, and worker among the Authority's contractors, as well as the best strategic partners, in addition to internal awards designated by the Authority for the best health, safety, and environment team and the best contribution to enhancing safety. The award categories come as part of the initiative launched by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Authority, aimed at embodying the Authority's strategy based on providing "safe and easy transport for all." Al Tayer said these awards aim to raise safety awareness among individuals and various institutions, and urge them to play an interactive and positive role in supporting the Authority's efforts towards entrenching safety in all institutional operations. He added that these awards were designed and established to encourage the Authority's partners to adopt and ensure best safety practices in the Authority's work sites, noting that a committee has been formed to follow up on the success of this initiative. For his part, Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, Executive Director of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at the Authority, said the Safety Awards aim to enhance the Authority's leading role in establishing partnerships and strengthening ties of cooperation with all institutions, highlighting the concept and practices of safety in designs, construction, and operations, and placing it at the top of priorities for local institutions and all media, and increasing awareness towards bearing safety and community responsibilities across all segments of society, especially among partners. Amir Salim, Director of the Safety Planning and Regulation Department, said the safety process adopted by the Authority largely reflects a methodology based on a modern approach to understanding risks during the design phase in order to avoid them or control them during the implementation and operation phases. As part of its strategy and commitment to safety, the RTA has set a number of evaluation criteria for institutions before participating in the Safety Awards 201. / WAM /
