Saudi Arabia wins 10 awards at the 2026 Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiad

The Saudi mathematics team achieved 10 international awards in the 38th edition of the Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO 2026), which was held remotely, with the participation of 397 male and female students representing 43 countries, after a preparation and qualification journey within the Mawhiba International Olympiads Program, implemented by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

The Kingdom's tally was 3 bronze medals and 7 certificates of appreciation; bronze medals were awarded to: Abdul Salam Abdullah Al-Sulami from Madinah Education Department, Elias Shaker Al-Faraj from Eastern Province Education Department, and Youssef Farid Al-Khalawi from Jeddah Education Department. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to: Abdul Ilah Mohammed Al-Saqqaf from Jeddah Education Department, Mohammed Ali Shiban from Education of the Royal Commission in Jubail, Abdullah Tariq Al-Amer from Eastern Province Education Department, Mohammed Baqer Al-Hassan from Al-Ahsa Education Department, Yasser Mohammed Habibullah from Education of the Royal Commission in Yanbu, Abdul Rahman Shawqi Mansour from Madinah Education Department, and Ali Hassan Al-Hussein from Eastern Province Education Department.

This result reflects the level of scientific qualification that students of the Saudi mathematics team receive, enhancing the Kingdom's presence in international scientific forums. With this result, the Kingdom's total tally in the Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiad rises to 121 international awards, including 3 gold medals, 14 silver medals, 52 bronze medals, and 52 certificates of appreciation. The Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiad is classified as one of the most prominent international competitions in mathematics for secondary school students, held annually with the participation of elite students from Asia-Pacific countries, aiming to develop mathematical thinking skills, solve advanced problems, and promote scientific excellence internationally. Mawhiba is a leading national foundation globally in discovering, nurturing, and empowering gifted individuals, operating according to a national strategy for talent development in priority scientific fields, contributing to building a knowledge society, enhancing innovation culture, and supporting national development.
