RABAT / Ahmed Bentaher / Anadolu
Morocco announced Wednesday the signing of an agreement on its participation in the international stability force in the Gaza Strip, through the deployment of senior officers to the joint command of the force.
This came in a statement by the Moroccan army, following a reception by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Moroccan Defense Minister Abdellatif Loudiyi, in the capital Rabat, for the High Representative of the Gaza Peace Council, Nikolay Mladenov.
The statement said that the reception of Mladenov came in implementation of the instructions of the Moroccan monarch Mohammed VI.
It added, 'The two sides signed, at the conclusion of the meeting, the agreement related to the participation of the Kingdom of Morocco in the international stability force in Gaza.'
The statement explained that the agreement constitutes the legal framework regulating the technical and operational aspects of the Moroccan participation, and embodies the common will to contribute, through humanitarian and security initiatives, to building a climate of peace and security.
It affirmed that participation in the international stability force embodies the Kingdom's adherence to the values of peace, cooperation, and international solidarity.
According to the statement, officials of the Gaza Peace Council welcomed Morocco's engagement in the initiative through the deployment of senior officers to the joint command of the international stability force.
On January 16 last, the White House announced the adoption of transitional phase governance structures in Gaza, including the 'Peace Council,' the 'Gaza Executive Council,' the 'National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (a technocrat government still in Cairo),' and the 'International Stability Force.'
The 'Peace Council' held its first meeting on Gaza chaired by US President Donald Trump on February 19 last, at the Institute of Peace in the capital Washington.
This step falls within the second phase of Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza, consisting of 20 points, and supported by UN Security Council Resolution 2803 issued on November 17, 2025.
The plan was reached after two years of a genocidal war launched by Israel on October 8, 2023, which left more than 73,000 dead and over 173,000 wounded, and widespread destruction affecting 90 percent of civilian infrastructure.
