An Iraqi security source announced on Wednesday evening the interception of two drones that attempted to target Erbil Airport and the US Consulate.

AFP correspondents reported hearing explosions on Wednesday near the US Consulate in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq.

The correspondents pointed to the activation of air defenses around the consulate, which has been the target of several missile and drone attacks during the Middle East war that began with a US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28.
