Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart Badr al-Busaidi discussed on Saturday mechanisms to ensure safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with a memorandum of understanding signed with the United States.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that during the call, Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi affirmed Oman's principled position based on resorting to diplomacy to prevent any escalation in the region.

The statement added that al-Busaidi expressed to Araghchi his hope that the regional security situation would improve through the full implementation of the memorandum of understanding.

The statement explained that the two sides discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, with a focus on the Strait of Hormuz file, and exchanged views on the safe passage of ships through the strait in accordance with Article Five of the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States.
