Iran's Fars news agency reported on Thursday that US attacks overnight targeted a railway bridge in a northern province of Iran, damaging a trade route with China and Russia, Tehran's strategic partners.

This route, which passes through Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, is an important land route from Iran to China, and its importance has increased during the US blockade imposed this year on Iranian ports.

According to Fars, Russia has also been using this route to transport goods to Iran since late 2025.

The agency noted that repairs to the bridge are expected to be completed quickly.

On Wednesday, the United States escalated its military strikes inside Iran for the second night, targeting sites and facilities in several areas that Washington said were linked to Tehran's ability to threaten navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced additional strikes against Iran, aimed at 'further undermining its ability to threaten freedom of navigation' in the vital strait.

The escalation came after attacks targeted three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington said the US strikes were in response to, while Tehran has not claimed responsibility for those attacks.

US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: 'This is a response to Iran's shelling of ships. If it happens again, the situation will become much worse.'
