The Israeli army announced on Sunday evening that it intercepted a drone it said it had spotted near the border with Syria, without specifying its origin.

In a brief statement, the army said: "A drone was intercepted in the border area with Syria without activating sirens, in accordance with the adopted policy."

It added that the interception took place a short time ago and that the relevant authorities are continuing to investigate the source of the drone.

The statement did not specify the exact location of the interception or the party that launched the drone, and no group immediately claimed responsibility.

In contrast, Hebrew channel '12' said preliminary assessments indicate that the drone was likely launched from Lebanese territory, without providing details or evidence.

The incident comes amid the ongoing Israeli aggression on Lebanon, despite the 'framework formula' signed by Beirut and Tel Aviv under US auspices on June 26, 2026.

The formula stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territories, beginning with the implementation of a model in two unspecified pilot areas.
