Iranian Deputy Governor of Bushehr Ehsan Jahaniyan announced that US forces launched an airstrike on Thursday afternoon on the vicinity of the Bushehr nuclear plant.

Jahaniyan said in statements to the official Iranian news agency IRNA that US forces targeted the vicinity of the Bushehr nuclear plant, a military base in the Choghadak region of the province, as well as a fishing pier.

He clarified that no reports of casualties have been received so far.

He added that the 'Bonud' pier in the 'Asaluyeh' area was also attacked during the morning hours, causing fires in fishing boats belonging to local residents.

He noted that relevant authorities have begun inspection and damage assessment at the targeted sites.

The United States is carrying out attacks on Iran after Tehran targeted ships transiting the strategic Strait of Hormuz for global energy supplies.

Iran insists on the need for coordination with it before any ship crosses the strait, and rejects passage through any route in Hormuz other than the one it has designated.

On June 18, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding and initiated negotiations to reach a final agreement mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, but ambiguity surrounds the fate of these negotiations amid the current military confrontation.
