Israel is preparing for potential escalation scenarios with Iran, amid the ongoing military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with Israeli assessments indicating that the chances of reaching a permanent agreement between the two sides remain limited.

The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the Israeli security establishment is closely monitoring the escalation developments, with the military preparing for the possibility of the confrontation extending to Israel, whether through direct attacks from Iran or via other regional fronts.

The newspaper added that the Israeli army has enhanced the readiness of its air defense systems, updated its operational plans and target database inside Iran, in anticipation of any field developments.

According to Israeli officials, any major military response to an Iranian attack will be carried out in full coordination with the United States, stressing that Washington has so far asked Israel not to engage directly in the confrontation, while military and intelligence coordination between the two sides continues.

The newspaper pointed out that Israeli political circles believe that Iran's commitment to any temporary understandings faces major challenges, considering that the future of negotiations depends on the decisions of the Iranian leadership and its ability to control the Revolutionary Guards.

Call Between Trump and Netanyahu

In the same context, the newspaper revealed that US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone call that discussed the escalation developments with Iran, while a date has not yet been set for a meeting that the two sides had previously announced their intention to hold, amid the US administration's preoccupation with managing the current crisis.

These assessments coincided with the announcement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) of a new round of strikes against Iranian military targets, which it said came in response to attacks targeting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
